Mountain mama

A quick word about the Hofbrauhaus on a Friday morning. More specifically, a quick word about the band at the Hofbrauhaus, who keep the place a happily polka-ing mecca of merriment every day of the week. Along with the countless polkas and marches they do play, and the compulsory "Ein Prosit!", they have one more crowd pleaser up their sleeve.

They play the happiest, bounciest, and drunkest version of John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" that you will ever witness.

It draws the wildest cheers, the most raised glasses, and the most boisterous singing of them all, beating even "Ein Prosit", and even from the Germans. The Japanese do very little other than take photos (bad ones, to be sure, after ein Mass), but the picture of hundreds of Germans, Americans, Canadians and Australians happily roaring "West Virginiaaaaa!" is one of the most beautiful things I have seen.

As always, do enjoy.

Misty taste of moonshine,

BHK
